What is a .SRT file?

A .srt file or subrib file is a subtitle export format. It is a text file which contains the subtitles in text form and accompanied by timecodes. This subtitle format is the best known and most widespread on different platforms. YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter support it.

The .srt file allows you to have Closed Captions on your video. This means that thanks to it, your audience will be able to activate or deactivate the subtitles at any time.

To obtain an .srt file with Capté, subtitle your video as you usually do then go to the export tab. There, click the subtitle file button and select the .srt format from the drop-down list.

And for those curious, the opened .srt file looks like this!

What is a .VTT file?

No, nothing to do with cycling! A .VTT or Web VTT file is a subtitle export format. It's a recent format. It is a text file which contains the subtitles in text form and accompanied by timecodes. It contains more metadata than the .Srt file. Indeed, it takes into account the style given to the subtitles (color, position, etc.) but most readers do not display them.

YouTube and Vimeo support the .VTT format.

Just like the .srt file, the .VTT file allows you to have Closed Captions on your video. This means that thanks to it, your audience will be able to activate or deactivate the subtitles at any time.

To obtain a VTT Web file with Capté, subtitle your video as you usually do then go to the export tab. There, click the subtitle file button and select the .VTT format from the drop-down list.

And for those curious, the opened .vtt file looks like this!

.srt file, .vtt file, what's the difference? What choice to make?

.srt and .vtt files are two subtitle formats. These are text files. Only the .srt file is more widespread. The .vtt file, for its part, contains more information on the subtitles such as the style given to them. The .vtt format is newer and not supported by all platforms.

The .srt file should be chosen if you post your video on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube or your website.

The .vtt file should be chosen if you post your video on Vimeo, YouTube or your website.

The .srt and .vtt formats

.srt and .vtt files are two subtitle export formats. These are text files. They allow you to have Closed Captions on your video. That is to say, thanks to them, your audience can activate or deactivate the subtitles at any time.

The .SRT file is more common. Also called SubRip, it contains subtitles in the form of segmented text and accompanied by timecodes. YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter support it.

As for the .VTT file, nothing to do with cycling! A .VTT or Web VTT file is a text file similar to the .SRT file. However, it contains more metadata than the .srt file. Indeed, it takes into account the style given to the subtitles (color, position, etc.) but most readers do not display them. YouTube and Vimeo support the .VTT format.

To obtain a .srt or .vtt subtitle file with Capté, subtitle your video as you usually do then go to the export tab. There, click the subtitle file button and select .srt format or .vtt format from the drop-down list.

PS: this feature is only available in our subscription plans, or if you buy a single video for €10

My video exceeds the 2GB limit

It is not possible to add a video larger than 2GB. But you can compress the video then add it to Capté. You can use Handbrake which is a free application. https://handbrake.fr/

Icon - Elements Webflow Library - BRIX Templates

I don't have sound on my Capte video even though there is sound on my video. For what ?

No worries, it's probably a case of an unrecognized Codec. For example, iPhones encode videos in h265 and most browsers only accept videos encoded in h264.

There are therefore 2 solutions:

- Use Capté from Safari
- In most cases, this error is resolved by repairing the video file. To fix it, you can convert it to h264 format. Either with free software like Handbrake, or directly online https://cloudconvert.com/mp4-converter . You can also choose to export in h264 format in the software with which you made the video

If the problem persists, do not hesitate to contact our team via the chatbot.
